Group Discussion Guide

Follow Me - Part 3

This guide is designed to help your group create a space for genuine connection and conversation within your discussion time. Don't feel pressured to address every question each week. Instead, allow the Holy Spirit to guide you as you lead your group in uncovering what God intends to communicate during your time together.

This guide comprises three sections: Loving, Learning, and Living. Each section aims to steer your conversation towards meaningful discussions about spiritual growth as individuals and as members of the body of Christ.

LOVING

First moments together as a group to connect and pray (approx. 10-15 min).
  • How have you seen God at work in your life since the last time we met?
  • What has been one high and one low since the last time we met?
  • How did you do with living out what we talked about last time we met?

Open with prayer and invite God to be part of your conversation and relationship.

LEARNING

The majority of the group discussion is devoted to open dialogue, reflecting on God’s Word and its personal application to each of our lives (approx. 60-75 min).

Scripture References from Message: Luke9:18-23
Big Idea from Message: Following Jesus is measured in a moment, but in a daily pattern of surrender.
Read Luke 9:18-23 together as a group. If you had to describe who Jesus is in one word, what would you say? Would it be similar to the crowds, the disciples, or Jesus’ definition?

Think back to when you first started following Jesus. Has your vision of who he is changed over time?

Curtis said that we often follow a version of Jesus that looks more like ourselves or is at least more aligned with our own wants and desires than who Jesus really is. Have you ever experienced this in your own life?

What does it mean to you to follow Jesus as the Messiah (Anointed One of God) who was rejected, suffered, died, and rose again? How might this version of Jesus challenge how we operate as followers of Jesus in the world around us?

LIVING

The challenge for the week ahead is to grow in our faith and lovingly hold each other accountable through the community.

This week, think about the habits or practices of surrender you need to work on in your everyday life. What are these habits/practices and what will they require of you? Once you’ve identified these things, it’s a good idea to share them with someone in your group who can keep you accountable to actually picking up your cross and following Jesus daily.
