Group Discussion Guide

Follow Me - Part 4

This guide is designed to help your group create a space for genuine connection and conversation within your discussion time. Don't feel pressured to address every question each week. Instead, allow the Holy Spirit to guide you as you lead your group in uncovering what God intends to communicate during your time together.

This guide comprises three sections: Loving, Learning, and Living. Each section aims to steer your conversation towards meaningful discussions about spiritual growth as individuals and as members of the body of Christ.

LOVING

First moments together as a group to connect and pray (approx. 10-15 min).
  • How have you seen God at work in your life since the last time we met?
  • What has been one high and one low since the last time we met?
  • How did you do with living out what we talked about last time we met?

Open with prayer and invite God to be part of your conversation and relationship.

LEARNING

The majority of the group discussion is devoted to open dialogue, reflecting on God’s Word and its personal application to each of our lives (approx. 60-75 min).

Scripture References from Message: Luke 9:57-62; John 6:63-69
Big Idea from Message: True discipleship is saying yes to Jesus without setting terms, timelines, or escape clauses.
In Luke 9, several people express a willingness to follow Jesus, but their responses reveal hesitation, conditions, or delay. How does this passage expose the gap between believing in Jesus and actually following Him, and where do you see that gap showing up in your own life?

The message said that following Jesus means trusting Him with outcomes we cannot control. That gets real fast. Where in your life are you most tempted to hold onto control rather than trust Jesus? How does that area reveal what you actually believe about His goodness and leadership?

Peter’s words in John 6 are powerful: “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” That is the turning point of discipleship. When following Jesus feels costly, uncertain, or disruptive, what helps anchor your heart back to that same conviction?

Palm Sunday (leading to the cross) shows crowds celebrating Jesus as King, shouting “Hosanna” (Matthew 21:8–11), yet later many would turn away when following Him became costly (John 6:66). What does this reveal about the difference between emotional excitement and true discipleship, and where might you be tempted to celebrate Jesus without fully surrendering to Him?

LIVING

The challenge for the week ahead is to grow in our faith and lovingly hold each other accountable through the community.

This week, spend time each day asking Jesus one honest question: “Where am I saying yes in theory, but not yet in practice?”

Write down whatever comes to mind. Then choose one concrete act of obedience in that area this week. Do not wait until it feels easy, clear, or convenient. Follow Him now, trusting that He will meet you in the uncertainty.
