Group Discussion Guide
God Among the Ruins, Part 2
This guide is designed to help your group create a space for genuine connection and conversation within your discussion time. Don't feel pressured to address every question each week. Instead, allow the Holy Spirit to guide you as you lead your group in uncovering what God intends to communicate during your time together.
This guide comprises three sections: Loving, Learning, and Living. Each section aims to steer your conversation towards meaningful discussions about spiritual growth as individuals and as members of the body of Christ.

LOVING
First moments together as a group to connect and pray (approx. 10-15 min).
Open with prayer and invite God to be part of your conversation and relationship.
- How have you seen God at work in your life since the last time we met?
- What has been one high and one low since the last time we met?
- How did you do with living out what we talked about last time we met?
Open with prayer and invite God to be part of your conversation and relationship.
LEARNING
The majority of the group discussion is devoted to open dialogue, reflecting on God’s Word and its personal application to each of our lives (approx. 60-75 min).

Nehemiah 3 records name after name of ordinary people who took responsibility for a portion of the wall near where they lived. Reference and read 1 Corinthians 12:12–27 together. How does Paul’s picture of the body of Christ deepen our understanding of why every section of the wall mattered? What happens to the whole when one part refuses to engage?
Many of the builders in Nehemiah 3 were not professional builders. Some were leaders, some craftsmen, some families, and some people whose names appear nowhere else in Scripture. Reference and read Ephesians 2:10 together. How does this verse, in light of Nehemiah, reshape the way we think about availability versus ability when responding to God’s command?
Opposition appears immediately in Nehemiah 4. Instead of stopping the work, Nehemiah turns first to prayer and then leads the people to keep building. How does Scripture consistently frame adversity as part of spiritual formation rather than a sign of failure? Where might resistance actually confirm obedience in your life?
Reference and read Galatians 6:9 together. What does it look like to remain faithful when the work feels slow, unseen, or costly? How do we guard against discouragement when obedience does not bring immediate results?
Nehemiah’s leadership reminds the people that the work is not ultimately about the wall, but about God’s name, His people, and His purposes in the world. Reference and read Matthew 28:19–20 together. How does seeing the bigger mission of God help us stay focused when our section of the wall feels small or insignificant?

LIVING
The challenge for the week ahead is to grow in our faith and lovingly hold each other accountable through the community.
This week, spend time in prayer and reflection with God around calling and perseverance. Ask God three questions and listen carefully:
Then take one intentional step toward your section of the wall. Share your decision with someone in your group or church family so that you are not carrying it alone. Let community strengthen your hands.
