Group Discussion Guide
So That You May Know, Part 8
This guide is designed to help your group create a space for genuine connection and conversation within your discussion time. Don't feel pressured to address every question each week. Instead, allow the Holy Spirit to guide you as you lead your group in uncovering what God intends to communicate during your time together.
This guide comprises three sections: Loving, Learning, and Living. Each section aims to steer your conversation towards meaningful discussions about spiritual growth as individuals and as members of the body of Christ.

LOVING
First moments together as a group to connect and pray (approx. 10-15 min).
Open with prayer and invite God to be part of your conversation and relationship.
- How have you seen God at work in your life since the last time we met?
- What has been one high and one low since the last time we met?
- How did you do with living out what we talked about last time we met?
Open with prayer and invite God to be part of your conversation and relationship.
LEARNING
The majority of the group discussion is devoted to open dialogue, reflecting on God’s Word and its personal application to each of our lives (approx. 60-75 min).
Scripture References from Message: 2 John 4-5, 3 John 2-4
Big Idea: Walk closely with Jesus, but do not walk alone.

Read 2 John 4-5 and 3 John 2-4 together as a group. Johns says he has “no greater joy” than hearing believers walking in the truth. Why do you think faithful, everyday obedience brings such joy to John? How does that change the way our culture often measures success?
John is emphasizing that eternal life is not merely something we experience after death, but the life of God at work in us right now through Jesus (refer to 1 John 5:13). How does viewing eternal life as a present reality change the way you approach your daily relationship with Christ?
John’s letters repeatedly call believers to abide in Christ, love one another, reject false ideas about Jesus, and live as children of God. Which of those areas feels most important for you to focus on right now, and why?
Explain how those themes in Johns letters are different and counter to modern-day thought of eternal life being “after death.”
The Christian life was never meant to be lived alone. Where do you currently need encouragement, prayer, community, or purpose from the church? And, where might God be inviting you to become that source of encouragement for someone else? Is there a next step you can take this week?
Read Hebrews 10:24-25 and 1 Thessalonians 5:11. The church is not simply a place we attend but a people we belong to. What practical step could you take this week to move from consuming church to actively encouraging and building up another believer?

LIVING
The challenge for the week ahead is to grow in our faith and lovingly hold each other accountable through the community.
This week, intentionally encourage one person in your church family. Send a text, make a phone call, write a note, or have a conversation where you simply remind them, "Keep going. I can see Christ at work in you." At the same time, if you are carrying a burden or feeling spiritually isolated, take the initiative to ask someone for prayer, support, or community. Walk closely with Jesus this week, but do not walk alone.
